Quiz Tuesday part 11

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Since I insulted you last week -by mocking your lack of botanical knowledge - and then was proven wrong by Olivier and Alice, in penitence, I will pose an easy question today:

What is this plant doing, sitting pretty on a pine tree?

Is it just being beautiful?

Or maybe the owners of the tree had a fight, and one threw the favorite houseplant of the other into the tree? Or maybe, like a cat, it climbed up only to realize it couldn't get down?

My only reasonable guess is that it is one of those tropical "Epiphytes", but I have no clue if those even grow where you are...

Issy, I don't know, but the orange colour is good.

It's some kind of bromeliad!! My mentor in college had a houseful of them. She used to be a florist before going back to school for her graduate degree. I love bromeliad because they are hardy and so alien.

I have no idea -- but it's a gorgeous photo with great color.

je dirais que cela fait partie de la famille des Magnolias, mais laquelle, je donne ma langue au chat.
Belle photo et belle couleur

I would say that that belonged to the family of the Magniolias, but which, I give my language to the cat. Beautiful photograph and beautiful color

my weather-pixie has got her sweater on and is carrying an umbrella!

I think the plant is hoping to get our photographer a little closer so it can JUMP OFF and land on her camera.
Or maybe not.
Nice photo, keep it going, Izzy!

I have no idea either, but I saw this in the portal, it caught my eye with the rich colour.

Great picture, I just love it!

While I'm here I thought I'd let you know that I have moved my site on to Wordpad, unfortunately that means it's time to update those links again.......sorry.

The Wiki that you can use to copy and paste the links into your template/sidebar is very simple and usefull.

My cats like to eat plants, so we don't have any in my home. Although we once had a cactus, but my wifey didn't water it enough and it died. How can one kill a cactus buy under watering it? My cats didn't eat it, witch was a good thing. So yeah, that answers the question I do believe.

Sucking the life out of the pine and surviving. We get those, too, not so much on pines, but on native trees.

but this is so weird!
Maybe it's a Pinutis eatingin.... ok, that's false, but the photo is really amazing!

Congratulations to our college girl - Victoria (your parents will be happy to know their money is well spent)!!!
This succulent plant sitting pretty on top of the pine tree branch is known as an epiphyte – a plant that needs the rough bark of a tree, rock or other coarse surface to attach to for support. These "air plants" are not parasitic and are able to survive by collecting water between their leaves which in turn becomes a home for insects, such as mosquitoes, small frogs and lizards. Useful and pretty to boot...
Thanks all for playing along and making me laugh out loud!
In the process I learned a new French expression (donner la langue au chat - cat's got my tounge?) and a new species of plant
Pinutis eatingin ;-))))

hi, i think its a bromeliad which gets its nitrogen from the air.
