Day 5 and a quiz

For the past 2 weeks we hosted our good friends from Germany. We knew that they were both athletic and adventurous, but they totally wore us out!!! For the next few days I will show you just some of the things we did on their vacations!

I will end this series with our weekend escapade to Key West. What can I say about the Conch Republic besides its being the southernmost city in the continental United States?

Quiz Tuesday part 39

My brother owned one of those beauties and cried like a baby when it came time to let it go...
I never had such a strong connection to any vehicle I owned...with the exception of my first bike!

Today's question is: can you name the car? and for some extra points: name the year.

The Answer: 1962 Corvette! The year was supplied by a friend (not the owner) so I cannot be absolutely sure. I guess we should ask Kate who seems to be an expert (or is married to one;-)).

Most of you came close to guessing (with the exception of Rauf, as usual ;-)), but Kate, Nikon and JoAnn were practically spot on! Congratulations! And thank you all for playing!

Looking back, I have had many adventures in kayaking, in different parts of the world. But the one that stands out is meeting James Michener, the author, while we both (he in a sailboat, I in a canoe) floated around Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.

Quiz Tuesday part 29 (plus home series 3)

Continuing our homes series (please see the previous 2 posts, if you've just arrived).
Also, I promise to address all the issues you raised concerning this subject, on a special post, at the end of the series.

If you are a frequent visitor to this blog (and why wouldn't you be?), you might notice that this particular home does not fit in with the prevailing Mediterranean architectural style of Naples.

Obviously, the owners recreated their beloved, pre-retirement home - most likely from the Eastern part of the country (New England, would be my guess).

Today's challenge: To find as many un-Floridian aspects to this photo as you can! I can assure you that there are no less than five...

I will start you off: 1. grey, rainy skies (yes, we do get them occasionally)

Yes, it is Quiz Tuesday, but it is also my 200th post!

No muss, no fuss, no fanfare...but I'd like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Eric and his brainchild, DP, and thank you all for your many visits and comments on Naples Daily Photo.

Being a part of the DP community allowed me to travel around the globe and meet some wonderfully quirky people! It attracted (very flattering) attention from some magazines and newspapers. It sharpened my vision and awareness of my surroundings and as such, deepened my appreciation for it...And for that I am grateful.

Now, back to our regular programming ;-)

Well, after 4 days of lying belly up, we've taken a walk along the coast that brought us smack into Ft. Myers Beach, about 30 miles north of Naples (I know it's a hefty walk, but just humor me ;-). If you enlarge the photo you will see the bridge to Sanibel Island in the distance, but I digress...

Today's question is: what are those sunbathers gawking and pointing at?

Update: Dolphin sighting! Unfortunately, you just have to take my word for it - he was too fast for my old Kodak. With a little imagination, you can almost ;-) see him here.

Quiz Tuesday part 23

What you are seeing, took place recently at Fort Myers Beach. I was watching it from the pier, together with a group of beachcombers and fishermen . Sorry I can not divulge any more details right now, but I know how clever you are - you'll figure it out :-).

Today's question is: can you describe what is taking place in this photo?

UPDATE: This scene is part of a dramatic rescue mission! Two seagulls got tangled up in the fishing line, with a hook stuck in one of their wings. They were sure to die...
This young man jumped in the water with some clippers to free them but it was not an easy task - the birds were wriggling, hissing, biting, getting entangled even worse...
Finally, after half an hour and another pair of helping hands, they were freed and brought onto the beach to recuperate. Obviously they were stressed and dazed and I hope they made out OK...
