Material girl

Valentine's Day display at Tiffany's in Naples.

As my gift to you on this Valentine's Day, I am disabling my customary music accompaniment so you can sing along with Marilyn. Ready? OK, let me hear you...little louder, please...

"The French were bred to die for love
they delight in fighting duels
but I prefer a man who lives
and gives expensive jewels.
A kiss on the hand may be quite continental
but diamonds are a girl's best friend.
A kiss may be grand but it won't pay the rental
on your humble flat, or help you at the automat.
Men grow cold as girls grow old
and we all lose our charms in the end.
But square-cut or pear-shaped
these rocks don't lose their shape
Diamonds are a girl's best friend.
...Tiffany's ... Cartier...
Talk to me, Harry, Winston, tell me all about it!"

(From: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) sung by Marilyn Monroe and you, music by Jules Styne, lyrics by Leo Robin

Je te souhaite une bonne saint-valentin. je prefere le film "diamant sur canapé" avec la sublime audrey hepburn et la chanson "Moon river".

I wish you a good St. Valentine's day. I prefer film “diamond on settee” with the sublime Audrey hepburn and the song “Moon to rivet”.

the song by miss Audrey Hepburn.

"Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
Wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world,
There's such a lot of world to see,
We're after the same rainbow's end,
Waiting 'round the bend,
My huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me."

Olivier - as you can see on my profile, that movie (and the song) is one of my favorites! The English title is "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
Jing - I'm sure you'll get some VD (that doesn't sound right ;-)) wishes from a guy before the day's over...

What better than Tiffany's to talk about "love". Diamond rings can't buy you love...but they really help. I like the picture, perfect for the occasion.

Clever post today! I'll have that song running through my brain the rest of the day....but that's a good thing!
Happy Valentine's Day from Minneapolis.

Brilliant posting! Really lifted my spirits. And didn't we love Marilyn. I was living in Los Angeles the day she died. So sad.

I love your blog, Isabella.

Wow, that's really run out of my budget!

Great post, Isabella. I am no longer allowed inside Tiffany's because I once asked how much something cost. And you know, if you have to ask, it's too much for you.

Your titles are always amusing Isabella, just love them. Tiffany is a beautiful name but it makes me hungry.

I'll never be able to afford anything but a keychain from Tiffany's but maybe someday I'll get something there. It does have that draw for women. I loved the movie too and Marilyn in her hot pink dress dancing up and down the stairs singing about diamonds.

Thanks for the smiles today (I'm a bit late for Val. Day). I love this post, and I love that number in the movie, one of my favorites. And yes, this song will be running through my head too now. I've never been inside Tiffany's. Reminds me of Cartier in Paris where you don't feel welcome unless you're dripping jewels already.
