Jeopardy!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Pretty idyllic scene, right? Couple of ducks, doing ducky things, in the cove, their safe haven. WRONG! Look up a bit north...here's our resident alligator, silently stalking his prey...
It's the Law of the Jungle.

"The Law of the Jungle, which never orders anything without a reason, forbids every beast to eat Man except when he is killing to show his children how to kill, and then he must hunt outside the hunting grounds of his pack or tribe.
...Mowgli was taught the 'Stranger's Call,' which must be repeated til it is answered, whenever one of the Jungle People hunts outside his own grounds. It means, translated, 'Give me leave to hunt here because I am hungry.' And the answer is 'Hunt then for food, but not for pleasure."'
Rudyard Kipling The Jungle Book

belle photo, comme c'est encore un peu la saint-valentin, je vois mr canard faisant une approche tres discrete vers mdme canard pour lui proposer un weekend en amoureux.

beautiful photograph, as it is still a little the St. Valentine's day, I see Mr. duck making a very discrete approach towards mdme duck to propose a weekend of in love to him.

I ask this hesitatingly....is this the first in a (gulp) series of photos that you'll be sharing?
And with the sound muted on my work pc I don't know if you have soundtrack with this, but the "Jaws" theme certainly comes to mind!
Well done!!

Great capture! It isn't every day that one can see a photo of ducks in mortal peril. I'm torn, though. I want to see the poor ducks get away, then again I'd hate for the poor gator to go hungry.

Great Isabella. It is good you mentioned the menacing reptile, otherwise he would have fooled oour eyes too. As to your question in my blog, I will answer you there so I don't bring up a change of topic here.:)

Just distract it with a pain au chocolat from Maison Blanc.

Wonderful photo.I didn't see the alligator till I really looked. Reminds me of my years in Cairns, Australia but there they were crocodiles. You live in such beauty and you present it so beautifully.

I'll answer your question on my Menton blog..

thanks Isabella for being so welcoming. Jilly x

So one duck says to the other, "What's for dinner?".
Then the gator says to himself, "Why, duck, my cute little duckling."

Chris & Deb - you can sleep easy tonight! There'll be no more follow-ups ;-)))
And for all of our sakes, let's pretend that the gator was absolutely full that day and the ducks are still...well...just duckie!

Uooh! Nature is so wild, and Jungle's law is like that...
What an amazing pic, Isabella!

We can't tell the dolphin to meditate and be a vegetarian or give a sermon to the leapord. Nature is well balanced Isabella, there is absolutely no waste. species A survives on eating species B. species C lives a whole life, survives against all odds only to be eaten by species D. Waste of Species E is a resource for species F. some times our kindness and compassion is grossly misplaced. Only we humans produce a lot of waste, only humans go against the laws of nature.

its a lovely picture again Isabella

Oya - please don't worry! Most gators are too small to hurt humans and the larger ones (over 6 feet long)are instantly moved to the Everglades by "the crocodile-like hunters"...

I' glad you pointed out the alligator as I hadn't seen him either. But I wish someone would point him out to the ducks!
Such a lovely photo.

Hi, they're not Ducks! they're Morrhens, hence they haven't got webbed feet, which your excellent photo shows.

that should be Moorhens (typing terrible, bird ID good)
