Shell seekers

Southwest Florida is world renowned for its shells. Have you heard of Sanibel Island? Upon arriving here, Ponce De Leon named it "Costa de Carocles" - Coast of Seashells. With over 400 species of shells, Sanibel's beaches are considered the best shelling beaches in North America.

These shells wash up on Sanibel's beaches because unlike other barrier islands which run North to South, Sanibel runs East to West.Winter is the best time for shelling, because the storms push the shells along the shallow plateau of sand along the Gulf of Mexico and deposit them along the beaches.

Considering half the population of Minnesota seems to winter in Florida, I'm guessing at least half of Florida's shell inventory is now in the Land of 10,000 Lakes!

I have not had the opportunity to collect sea shells in a very long time. It used to be fun! Nice water shot!

Sanibel Island seems to be one of those paradises on earth. I love to collect different shells. I haven't been in Fla before but I have visited the Caribbean and I'm in love with those beaches, skies and clouds. That seagull looks splendid, nice capture. I like the big format of your pictures.
