I know how queasy you get by some of my alligator posts, so I intend to exploit it fully ;-)
Here we have another pair of Moorhens frolicking only a few feet away from the gator. This handsome fellow looks to be about 6 feet long (the largest alligator ever recorded in Florida was 17 feet 5 inches long or 5.3 meters) and seems totally disinterested. All tuckered out? Full tummy?
Or maybe, with Spring in the air he's more interested in love than war...
Update: Some of your comments made me think - human deaths caused by alligators have increased in recent years (11 people were killed by alligators from 2001 to 2006).
If you want me to continue bringing you these extreme (!) photos, may I suggest that you take up a collection to buy me a camera with a zoom lens, so I don't have to jeopardize my life each day for the cause ;-)

i think he is more interested in love...:P
look around him....so peaceful, and beautiful...why not enjoy it??

:P
Isabella! I don't care if that alligator devours those two frolicking Moorhens. Let him devour them in front of women and children for that matter.
All I care about is WHAT WAS THAT FRUIT YESTERDAY, AND WHY WAS IT CRYING??
Sorry.
Um, nice photo, beautiful color, pretty birds and uh, scary alligator too..
Chris & Deb - please don't raise your voices, we are all pacifists here :-)
And...oh, yeah, Congratulations!
Please go back to the lime post for more...
Oh, all right, I'll go back, too. The alligator looks like he's going to be crafty. Poor Moorhens; not too bright are they?
Do the Moorhens know the aligator is there or do they not care either?
Ahhhh....love makes us stupid, doesn't it?
Isabella-apologies for raising my voice....thankfully it looks like my rude behavior didn't awake the snoozing 'gator. I take back everything in that earlier unfortunate commentary. I hope those beautiful Moorhens are alive and frolicking today, but if not I sincerely hope no women and children were present to witness the carnage.
Alligators bring out the romantic in you :)
I love the colors in the water ripples from the middle of the photo to the top.
Reading comments of your posts are special exercise to my poor language and makes me wonder, why I must have studied Swedish, German and Latin and after those a little English and Italian, now I can not manage with you. THAT is irritating! ( My husband is laughing to me, he is obviously glad, do you know, why - - -? )
Have a nice day - anyway :))
Nice picture and love the last sentence of your narration :)
I'm with Tanty... Everything would be easier if we were think more in love than war... happy day there!
How can you come so close to an aligator anyway? Are you not scared?
The reason the alligator is not interested in the two ducks is because he sees you sneaking up on him, trying to take his picture.
Isabella, I think you need a camera with a telephoto lens. Its safer!
si je devais parier, je dirais que l'alligator se prepare un petit diner tranquille...belle photo, j'espere que tu n'as pas mis ta vie en perile pour faire cette photo. ils sont agressifs avec les humains ?
if I were to bet, I would say that the alligator prepares a small quiet dinner… beautiful photograph, I hope that you did not put your life in perile to make this photograph. they are aggressive with the human ones?
I love the gator photos, so exploit away!
Mimmu - I know how frustrated you are (having lived abroad myself)!
We use too much slang, jargon, colloquialisms, innuendos, double meanings and sarcasm...just to name a few ;-)
I propose that we establish one day a year where all of us have to post (and comment) in the native language of every member of the DP family! So one day we all post in Finnish, one day in Mandarin...What do you think?
And your English is very good! So, why does your husband laugh at you? Are you cursing a lot trying to understand our comments? ;-)
Please don't risk your safety ... My first thought is that the alligator has a full stomach and that is why the ducks are ignored. However, my second thought is that surely the ducks would not be there is they sensed danger. They are pretty smart so the ducks most likely knew the alligator was trying to lure you in closer.
You know Milteau? the piece on my blog is on the album according to “Blue 3Rd” and it is called “Rainy Night In Jersey”. Its last “Fragile” album is superb with in Guest star the singer Demi Evans. Thank you for the further information on the alligators.
Wonder how fast those birds could take off? Fast enough one hopes.
Super photo - hmmmmmmmmm, yes, a zoom sounds very necessary for you, m'dear. Take care.
Response for you on Menton DP. Thanks for visiting.
Jx
these "guys" are very brave...I guess I would be shocked:)
Perhaps have they already had their dinner?(two other moorhens...who knows?)
Funny: in French, un citron is a lemon in English...
Denton has it!!! The ducks know that the 'gator has his cunning ear on YOU!!!
Isabella,
You must get a long lens. And you must always look behind yourself too. What if that little girl alligator had a hungry boyfriend sniffing around your ankles?
Oooooh these are called Moorhens? We have them here too.
I suggest you sell one or two of your gigantic hibiscus photos to a gallery, you'll get the money for a long lense in no time at all!
