Colonial Naples

Back to the Gallery Row, downtown Naples. I wrote about it in this post, but I will remind you that we have over 100 art galleries in our small town of 22,000 inhabitants! Pretty impressive, huh?

This photo also proves that our downtown architects know more than just one style - Mediterranean! And they listened to the town councilman who once eloquently proclaimed: "If I see one more building downtown, looking like a goddamn Italian wedding cake, I'll puke!"

And finally, is it me, or is the man in the photo sprouting a tail?

I think it's his baseball hat with the bill tucked inside his belt and pants. Yes, the number of galleries is VERY impressiive; sort of like Door County, WI.

22,000 population? Somehow, I thought Naples was much bigger. 100 galleries IS impressive! I like the colonial touch here.

I like your councilman! I'm with Kate on the bill--tail affair.

I've been reading up about Naples: been driven to Geography by DP-ers who live in places I've never heard of.
Anyway I read that Naples is a big tourist place, golf and beaches are an unbeatable combination, so I guess the galleries are there for the wealthy tourists (when they're not on the beach or on the green)

Very eloquent councilman :)
I don't know about a tail, but he's one of the very few men I've seen in your pics not wearing shorts.

I guess that if you live in Naples, you must accept the Italian style?

Seriously, I agree. This looks very nice.

But how do you create a building style in a histroically speaking rather new settlement?

The guy with the rabbit tail IS the councilman who made that quote. His "tail" is a supply of kleenex to cover his face whenever he is recognized.

Well, where to start. The photograph of the Gallery Row is nice. The comment the councilman made is eloquent and probably true in some respect. And the man is a modern Playboy with the bunny tail.

My post today explains about a duck's sexual habits. Not sure if I should label it with an "X" or not.

Angela - you are absolutely right!
Here's a direct quote from a tourist brochure: "Because of the wealth the city is known for, visitors should expect to bring ample sums of money." ;-)

Nikon - yes, he's as formal as we get here ;-)

Peter - you think you're joking but you are not! Our Naples was named after the Italian one because of a similiar climate and geographical make-up. And I guess, the Mediterranean building style seemed like a natural fit...

Abe - that's a very titillating invitation to your site - I'll be right over ;-)

Angela answered my question - who buys all this art? Well, I know I'd love your town, Isabella - not least cos you live there. And how many books shops are there? That would be downfall.

As a matter of interest, who cares for the planters? They are beautifully done. So often planters in a town are boringly planted. These are done with some imagination and use of plants that grow tall as well as fall.

si je comprends bien ton commentaire sur mon post, je suis donc nul en anglais ;o)).....c''est bien de vivre dans une ville ou il y a autant de galeries d'art.

if I understand your comment well on my post, I am thus null in English; O))..... It is well of living in a city or there are as many art galleries.

Naples sounds like a great place to visit - very cultural and beautiful! Your councilman has such a way with words. :-)

Je te trouve très en forme aujourd'hui, Isabella ;-)

Even before reading your commentary my eye was automatically drawn to that man's plumage. Of course with the crappy monitor here at the office I'm unable to determine if it is indeed plumage, or if he's just got a severe wedgie.

I had to click on the photo after reading your comment. What an odd place to tuck a baseball cap. Sensible, but visually odd.

Do Italian wedding cakes look different from American ones? Hm.

Beautiful places like this pretty much demand that you walk around. The flowers everywhere are a nice touch.

Enlarging the photo seems to indicate that the lady has got a bald patch.
