Sarko on top

When I lived in Paris, my apartment in the 7th arrondissement (district) was practically next door to the French Ministry of Interior. In addition to several political manifestations, I witnessed many comings and goings of the Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy. Once we even came face to face...or should I say face to chest (his face, my chest, since he is rather short).

At that time (2003) I wrote to my family back in the States, that I just met the next President of the 5th Republic.

Fast forward to April 22, 2007. M.Sarkozy, the Conservative candidate garnished the most votes in the first round of the Presidential Elections in France. Whether he will win the second round in May (against the Socialist Ségolène Royal) and whether he will prove a worthy President, only time will tell.

But I just love bragging to everyone "I told you so!" ;-)

PS This statue of a short, stout gator with a big mouth, in front of the Yabba Island Grill Restaurant downtown Naples, has nothing to do with M. Sarkozy. Or does it?

This is as close to fame as I'll ever come :)
Strange - the analysts I'm reading seem to think they will have their first woman president.
Ah, politics!

I like you post today. And the commentary too.

How did you get Sarko to pose in that hat?
I actually hope he wins because I think he is different than all the others. He will try somethings new.
All the others are just the same, same, same...

Even France is our neighbour I must say that I'm not very informed about what's going on in politics there... ok, I admit i'm living without lots of information... and that's bad for me i know! But i don't like TV so I barely watch it... newspapers? yes, once in a while!! oooh what a flop I am!

America makes interference in the French policy ;O)) the photograph of the crocodile with Sarkozy is very good. You lived in Paris, I understand better why you write the French as well and moreover in one beautiful Parisian district

Aaah he was almost going to give you the title of Honorary Psychic of the Republic for your brilliant vision, but I'm afraid the croc pic will send you down to the cachots of La Bastille!

My question. Did you spy on the comings and goings of his wife? Did you write all the trash gossip?

What trash gossip? What did I miss?

Nathalie - LOL! I wish I thought of it, I could've made some money ;-)

Richard - where have you been? You are not aware of their volatile relationship? Her cheating on him with his compaign manager, he (allegedly) slapping her, and a lot more...

What I loved the most is her quote: "I don't want to be a First Lady - I like to wear my jeans too much" ;-)

Ah, that explains it. As Olivier commented - now we know why you write - and doubtless speak - such good French. Isn't it fascinating how we slowly learn, not only about the cities represented in the DP family, but about the bloggers too. I love that!

Love the photo.

I'm an old man but that happens to me, more often then my wife would like. As i age I guess that I'm shorter (just 6 foot now).

I read all about the 3 candidates on the plane to NYC, then I didn't hear any news on the weekend. Now you're saying it will definitely be Sarkozy and Royal. Poor Bayrou. I kinda like him. I'm a bit scared of Sarkozy tho.

There are so many things I could say about the face-to-chest thing, but I'll restrain myself . . . Hey, you started it!!

I’m not sure if Sarkoszy is that snappy!

HAHAHA! Love the story of Sarkozy bumping into your chest. :-)

I vote for Isabella (replacing Laetitia Casta) to be the new "bust of Marianne" (symbol of France) if/when Sarkozy wins the election.
