Pod invasion

La Florida - "the land of flowers" in Spanish - is also the land of mighty strange looking pods, like this one

and this one.

Don't ask me what they are - I have no idea! But if it seems like I've been replaced by an alien being, you'll know how it happened...

Now that is one scary looking pod! Looks like red bulging eyes coming out of a yellow body...hope they don't snatch bodies!

Cool shots! I love it. I bet TOG knows.

je ne connais pas cette fleur, mais cela me fait penser à la naissance d'un papillon. je trouve la dernière photo très belle et poétique

I do not know that flower, but it makes me think of the birth of a butterfly. I think the last picture beautiful and poetic

Gosh! Wow! Amazing! No way will the alien pods take you away because you're their best photographer!

By the way, the Fremont Bridge was not icy. I've been lucky not to have to be in any vehicle when it was slippery except for the bus ride I posted about on Dec. 2.

I don't care for the first one - rather yucky. But the second one is just beautiful - I so agree with Olivier. As always beautiful photographs.

I've got one word for you, Isabella, one word - hemorrhoids.
Oh, hang on - I've just read the other comments - cancel hemorrhoids - I'm going with Olivier - that's what I MEANT to say!

I've got one word :) Color!!
You still have green, & warm golden sunlight & aliens. We have 20 degrees that'll freeze those roids right off :-)
Everyone knows that it's the spores that you have to be careful of.

Yes but, how do we know you have not already been replaced? What if you have been an alien all along?

Oh well, at least then we would know aliens have great blogs!

I think they are coming for me now, I have to go.

Very nice pods. I have no idea what they are except that they are very attractive to me.

The first picture is one of the bitter gourds(or melons). It is an antioxidant and is good for people with diabetes. This wild one is probably good only for warts. I won't say if it reduces or produces warts. The second is the seed of the yellow, Tabebuia chrysantha. The winged seeds blow all over the yard and can sprout were you don't want them.

They ARE so unusual! Love the second one best.

We dont move to Washington till Dec end.....so the recent floods should not make a difference.

How interesting. It must be the climate. They kind of look like something one would find in the tropics.

In Spanish, 'florida' means flowerly. "Land of flowers" would translate "tierra de flores". Almost the same thing, but not exactly.
Great photos!

those are fascinating, and thanks to tog for enlightening us about them!

Didn't I see that first one in Men In Black?

Those are amazing! I've never seen anything like them either. Florida must be where the podpeople are from.
