Pretty in pink?

Just a courtyard of the neighboring house. Would make a great "pink theme day" on the DCP, wouldn't it?

Hypothetically speaking: it's the 1920's, you just had a baby boy, what color booties would you get him?

WRONG! According to Wikipedia: "Despite being widely considered the color of females, before the 1930s, pink was considered to be a color for boys in America. Because pink is a watered down version of red, it was considered a color of power and strength, as red is still today. Blue was for girls!"

So there...You learned something new today...I keep telling you, I'm not just a pretty face ;-)

How is it you came upon this information?
What kind of search were you doing in Wikipedia to stumble across that!?
Anyway, wasn't it the depression in the 20's (well the 30's), those babies would be lucky to get booties made out of hessian potato sacks!

I wonder just WHO decides what is in and what is out from one generation to the next! No wonder there is a generation gap!

You are right. Very interesting. I understand it was the contrary for some time and before that children, both sexes, were just dressed in white (if you belonged to the social group where you had a choice). I still wonder what is the reason for such changes? I would not imagine that Barbara Cartland inspired parents to dress their daughters in pink?

It seems now that the pink and blue is a more or less world wide thing, but are there still some differences in traditions? Doesn't the bride in China still dress in red?

So I won the gator prize!! Before receiving it, I would like to check what it could be. I'm a bit suspicious. I guess exports and imports of gators are prohibited? Finally, I believe I would just be satisfied with the honour!

When I was born and for several years afterward, it was common practice to dress boys and girls in "dresses." I know I had to wear one.

Nice pink photo.

Although I never wore a dress (like Abe) and I never was allowed to wear Pink (even as an infant) I still, very much enjoy, Pink Floyd.
I also like listening to the "Blues" but mostly in smoky cafés.
Does any of this mean anything?

You did teach me something! Imagine that -- pink for boys and blue for girls. Shows how cultural such things are. :)

The pink doesn't shout, it has enough Ocher in the mix a make it look more earthy. As a youngster we had some stark pink houses and a few bright blue houses in Coral Gables. They were noted but not praised.
The driveway is too clean - they don't clean their own drive.

Thanks for the visit today, I do appreciate it.

No, there is no photo of me in a dress of any color but I do have a photo of me sitting on an old dining room chair brought out in the front yard for the photographer to get a good picture of me without my curls.

I wrote a couple of newspaper stories this morning and one was about my first haircut and finally shedding dresses and starting to wear some real pants.

That is very interesting! I always say anyway, if ever I had a child, their room will be blue - boy or girl - because it's my favourite colour!

As a young girl, I wanted to wear pink clothes, but my mother always dressed me in blue. She said people with red hair should never wear pink. And now I am grown up and I see what she meant! I still don't wear pink!
