Quiz Tuesday part 42

Another strange appendage I came upon near the beach. What the heck is it?

TOG? ANYBODY?

Looks like that is how the palm(?) sends out new shoots. Sure does look strange....

Don't know. Sure TOG will. Lovely anyway. Love palm fruits/seeds. Lovely photo thru to the sky.

Not the faintest... Better ask someone local!

Games up. It's a screw pine and it's formal name is Pandanus utilis. Most of us call it pandanus. The female flower is a round cone and it never looks like a real flower, but it does produce the seeds. The flower that you have is the male flower. I wouldn't say anything more about it, but it looks healthy.

Looks fuzzy and full of pollen. Nice shot though.

Tog spoiled it for the rest of us.
I was going to suggest an alien from outer space who got caught up in a pine tree on landing.

Lol! I once accused Tog of making up plant names (they are so bizarre sometimes, like in this instance), so now he encloses a link ;-) Thank you, Tog!

I still like Olivier's "hairy banana"...

Corn cobs strung together with rafia to make them look like screwpine cone. :-)
