Indigestion

OK, let me paint the picture for you: it's early morning, I'm sleepwalking walking Truffles on the boardwalk skirting the canoe lake and I see this long stocking draped over the railing. But as I approach, the stocking burps and I am face to fang with a snake! We both freeze - I, from sheer terror and he, from having just ingested a palm rat (one hopes ;-)).

Since my formal education did not include herpetology, I have no idea what kind of snake it is - corn snake? rat snake? - so if any one of you can enlighten me, I would be very grateful.

In the meantime, I plan to walk softly and carry a big stick ;-)

Special thanks to Olivier for presenting me with the "You make my day" award! I hope he feels the same way after today's post ;-)

Coo-oo-oo-oo-ool!!
Wow! That would have been something to see!
Did he REALLY burp?
Could he be a rat snake?
Have you seen that excellent site for identifying Florida snakes?

superbe la photo, on voit qu'il a bien profité des fêtes de fin d'année, après la sieste il va falloir qu'il se mette a faire du sport.

Superb picture, we see that he has taken advantage of the festive season, after the nap it will be necessary that it be a place of sport.

I know what kind of snake it is. It is a "full" snake.

You need to take a vacation before you get nightmares. Life is just getting too exciting down there. Maybe some snow would help.

I have already been to Florida (with nice memories), but these pics decided me not to return - even with a stick!

Freefalling - yes, the snake burped and then he winked at me ;-)
Thanks for the link, even though it gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Anonymous - thanks for the scary link (that's a squirell's tail, isn't it) - so it seems mine is a yellow rat snake.
(and thanks for your kind comment; are you by any chance, tall, dark and handsome?) ;-)

Isabella, I've missed the walks with you. My life took on a big "right turn" and I got very busy with "life".

But I'm back now. I wouldn't miss this walk though--I really don't care for snakes.

I think that you should introduce the snake to Al!
I wonder why he/she is on the railing? Getting sun?

snakes and crocodiles - what a wild world you inhabit.

you liked the last lot of roadsigns I posted so thought I'd let you know I've just posted another batch.

I left a message here yesterday but it never appeared. Perhaps I mistakenly clicked on another blog and they are now reading 'contented snake' or whatever I wrote....

Love the shot, happy snake, too fat to move I'd imagine - and just as well. Love both shots.

That is what I hate most about Florida. One cannot simply relax and catch some sun after a nice lunch.

Noooooo!!! Invariable, someone would come up, stand in front of me blocking out the sun until I bark at her to leave me alone. And guess what she did??!?!?! She has the nerve to take out her camera and started taking photos of me without asking my permission.

Oh, and what is that she has tagging along with her? Is that dinner?
