A gift

We've all been there. You walk around, looking for a photo worthy of a post and all you can find is a turtle sticking his head out of the (Canoe Park) lake. It doesn't look very interesting, you can't see much more than what's on the surface, but resignedly, you click anyway.

And then you come home, upload it to your computer and SURPRISE! The camera saw so much more: entire graceful creature, body armour and tail, suspended in water like a young Esther Williams!

Technically, it is known as a Florida soft-shell turtle, but I call it an Unexpected Gift ;-)

Very neat picture, but if I saw that head sticking out I would run the other way.

Isn't that the truth? I rarely delete photos on my camera anymore because sometimes the end up as great pics on the computer!

I love this photo!
And I agree wholeheartedly with chandlermom - never delete! - you just never know!
I don't mean to be judgmental about his looks, but that turtle sure does have a big nose!

It is amazing, isn't it, what the camera sees that we don't! I'd be so sad without my Nikon. Great shot of that guy, he is a looker, eh? :D
Thanks,
Wayne

I so agree with you, Isabella, and everyone else. You just never know what you've got till you get it home. This is a gift indeed. Even down to the little dots on the water and the different blues, but the light on the turtle is extraordinary. Amazing it came out as it has.

I've seen lots of turtles, but this thing really freaked me out! That's such an unusual perspective, thanks!

His eyes seem to say, "How did I get in this situation? Why are you laughing?"

Wow, this one is stunning! What a wonderful surprise. I wish I could get some of these surprises, but usually only discover blurred pictures where I thought to have just fine ones... ;)

Awesome photo! And I have had similar experiences as yours. Sometimes, I think a photo was just boring but it turns out nicely on the laptop. And vice versa.

Yes, you're absolutely right. I've taken many photos thinking it's at most a slightly interesting shot. But when I upload it its so much more than what I expected.

Just goes to prove there's an extra element, very mysterious, to photography and that's why I stay at it.
